WFSB/Channel 3 for over 50 years has been naming winter storms, a tradition we’re proud to carry on today. ![]() Here are the first 5: Aspen, Birch, Cedar, Dogwood, and Elm. Given our late show of color in the autumn season, we’re going with species or types of trees. We are officially releasing our list of Winter Storm names for the ‘23-’24 season. HISTORY AND CRITERIA FOR NAMING WINTER STORMS… The week starts dry, then rain chances increase Tuesday.įirst Alert Chief Meteorologist Mark Dixon with Scot Haney The warming trend appears to peak Monday with highs between 60 and 65. ![]() Our forecast for dry weather on Saturday and Sunday continues! The warming trend continues with highs back above average. A warming trend will also commence with highs back in the 50s by Friday. Lows will range from the 20s in the usual colder spots of NW & NE CT, to near/below freezing along the shoreline.Īs we close out the week, we expect dry weather with ample sunshine. Then, we have our *FIRST ALERT* for the first hard freeze of the season tonight into tomorrow morning that will likely bring an end to the growing season. Outside of wet roads in spots, we’re not anticipating any impact from wintry precipitation. Isolated showers will be possible through early afternoon otherwise, expect a mostly cloudy sky. The first flakes of the season may mix in over the higher terrain of the Litchfield Hills. However, a weakening disturbance moving our way from the Great Lakes region will produce spotty rain showers starting as early as this morning’s commute. The track still appears to pass far enough offshore to have little/no impact on CT today. We have been monitoring model trends regarding a coastal low that developed overnight to our south. ![]()
